Creativity, Community & Giving Back at the 2026 OP Design Challenge
A night of creativity, collaboration, and community impact.
Office Pavilion recently hosted the 2026 OP Design Challenge — the 40th Anniversary Edition: Past. Present. PAWssible. — bringing together Hawaiʻi’s design community, industry partners, and Chaminade University students for an evening filled with creativity, friendly competition, great food, and giving back.
Local design firms participated in this year’s challenge, showcasing imaginative and thoughtfully crafted concepts in support of Hawaiʻi Fi-Do Service Dogs, a local nonprofit organization that provides service dogs to individuals in need throughout Hawaiʻi. Chaminade University Interior Design students also participated this year, creating their own submissions as part of the event experience and expanding the community involvement of the challenge.
Attendees had the opportunity to meet several service dogs in training during the event, adding an especially meaningful and memorable element to the evening.
Guests enjoyed festive touches throughout the showroom, including the DIRTT hot dog bar, specialty “PAW-tini” drinks, and the opportunity to explore each team’s unique design submission while connecting with industry peers and voting for the People’s Choice award.
This year’s submissions were reviewed by a panel of judges representing both the design community and Hawaiʻi Fi-Do, including Wendy Shewalter (Office Pavilion), Susan Luehrs (Hawaiʻi Fi-Do), Phil Kemp (past AIA Honolulu president), Alyssa Fa (past ASID Hawaiʻi president), and Monique Palisbo (IIDA Hawaiʻi Pacific Chapter president).
Thanks to the generosity and support of attendees, sponsors, participating firms, volunteers, and community partners, the event raised over $5,200 for Hawaiʻi Fi-Do and their mission to provide service dogs to those in need within our community.
